The Lafayette Association is a fraternal organization for United States Navy Submariners who served aboard the nuclear powered fleet ballistic missile submarine USS Lafayette (SSBN-616). The primary purpose of the association is to provide an opportunity for the members to enjoy camaraderie with former shipmates and other submariners with a common background of service aboard the Lafayette, and to provide the opportunity for members to actively participate in reunions and other activities of the association.

Association President's Message
Welcome shipmates and friends of the USS Lafayette Association to our Web Site. The site is now four years old primarily due to the outstanding efforts of webmaster Bill Fraser. My comments are brief but the web site contains a lot of valuable information so please spend some time and explore it all. As always your inputs and comments on the Association are desired so please feel free to pass them on to me. The continuing success of the Association depends on all of us being involved. Your board members have been deeply involved in making the organization work and I want to thank them here for their efforts and support.
Reunion 2009
The reunion planning is moving along well and details can be found on the Reunion 2009 tab.
Membership Roll
We have encountered a problem with our mailing lists. The last email announcement we sent out had many returns as undeliverable. Take a minute of your time and check your mailing address/email address in the data base. If it is incorrect please update it. If you don’t want the information published on the website let me know and we can arrange that but, please give us your current information. Bill Fraser (webmaster) has spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find lost people. Louie Morrison as the chairman of the membership committee has taken over the responsibility to try and get the lists current. Louie is also continuing to try and find lost ship mates. Please look over the crew list and if you see if you can provide any leads (current location, old hometown, last known location) we will pursue it. You help will be greatly appreciated.

Click on the “Association” to verify if your dues are current. The Association established dues of $10 per year payable in two year increments. The dues for 2008-09 of $20 are now due. Our treasurer, Joe Geiger has set up a secure PAYPAL account which allows you to pay theses dues online via credit card. This is a simple way to handle this and can be done via our website. Joe still accepts checks if you so desire. His address is:
Joe Geiger (Treasurer), 2211 Riding Ridge Rd, Columbia, S.C. 29223
Volunteers
The Association depends on volunteers to keep going. We desperately need people to lead and staff our committees. We still need a Newsletter Editor and some staff members to keep up the communications with the membership. We need help onsite at the reunion to register members and handle the myriad of minor details associated with the reunion. We will not take up much of your reunion time and your help will be appreciated by the attendees. If you can help with any of these areas or have any input on this subject please contact me or any of the board members.

USS Lafayette Association
The USS Lafayette Association was conceived by Bill Fraser & Herb Murphy on the back porch of Herb's home in Gamaliel, AR on Aug 27, 2004. When Bill started this website on Nov 27, 2004, he had contact information for less than 10 shipmates, so he started searching to find shipmates. Bill and Herb organized the Inaugural Reunion in Tunica, MS, without any assistance. Then only 6 months and 4 days after the website was started the Reunion was held from May 31 to Jun 3, 2005 and there were over 120 in attendance, including both of the commissioning crew Commanding Officers Patrick Hannifin and James Strong. A business meeting was conducted where the Association was formed, By Laws were approved and officers elected.
